Woman caught at Lanzarote Airport smuggling cocaine capsules

A 58-year-old woman has been arrested by the Guardia Civil in Lanzarote on charges of drug trafficking after being found with 146 capsules of cocaine in her carry-on luggage. The incident occurred on July 27th during a routine security check at the César Manrique Airport.

Officers were conducting random inspections in the arrivals hall for passengers coming in on a flight from Barcelona. During these checks, the woman's hand luggage was subjected to an X-ray, which revealed suspicious organic material.

Despite her insistence that she was not carrying anything unusual, a manual search of her luggage uncovered seven packets, each containing between 20 and 22 capsules, amounting to a total of 146 cocaine capsules, weighing 1.64 kilograms.

The substance was tested on-site and confirmed to be cocaine, leading to the immediate arrest of the woman, who has been charged with drug trafficking and has been remanded to the custody of the Arrecife Judicial Court.
