A man was rescued in critical condition yesterday afternoon (Thursday) after getting into difficulty in the sea between Playa Fañabé and Playa del Duque, in Costa Adeje, according to the Canary Islands Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).
The incident occurred at around 5:30pm, when several alerts were received reporting that a swimmer was in distress. Emergency resources were immediately deployed to the area.
The man was initially rescued by a private boat and brought to shore. At that point, he was in cardiorespiratory arrest, and bystanders began resuscitation efforts until the arrival of SUC medical personnel.
Paramedics, travelling in an advanced life support ambulance, carried out both basic and advanced resuscitation techniques and succeeded in reversing the cardiac arrest and reviving the man.
Once stabilised, he was transferred to the University Hospital Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria in Santa Cruz, where he was admitted in a critical condition.
Authorities have not yet released further details about the victim’s identity or the circumstances leading to the incident.
