High tides on Tuesday have particularly affected the south of Tenerife, with the coastline of Las Galletas bearing the brunt of the rough seas. In the beach area and several nearby spots, powerful waves pushed rocks onto public roads.
The situation was especially noticeable on the TF-66 main road at the entrance to Las Galletas, where vehicle traffic was disrupted by debris scattered across the carriageway.
Along the seafront promenade, the rising tides caused flooding in some areas, prompting temporary closures to both vehicle and pedestrian access.
This is not the first time Las Galletas and other parts of the Arona coastline have been hit by tidal surges. In recent years, similar incidents have caused disruption, including vehicle damage from debris, minor collisions due to sudden road blockages, and flooding that has left several beachfront businesses temporarily closed. Local residents say that while these events are more common during winter storms, they have been occurring more frequently in recent summers.
Authorities have warned that rough sea conditions are expected to continue, with waves of up to two metres forecast for the southwest, south, and southeast coasts of El Hierro, La Gomera, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria.
