At just 14 years old, Cairo Garcia is rapidly becoming one of the brightest young talents in international surfing, proudly putting both Tenerife and the Canary Islands on the global surfing map.

Born and raised in Tenerife to an English mother and Spanish father, Cairo is perfectly at home in both cultures. Fluent in English and Spanish, he has grown up embracing the island's outdoor lifestyle, spending countless hours in the Atlantic Ocean that has shaped both his passion and his future ambitions.

He discovered surfing at the age of six, building his passion on the “Spanish Left” wave in Las Palmeras in Las Americas, Arona. From this, his list of achievements is already remarkable for someone so young.

After being crowned the 2025 Canary Islands Junior Surf Champion, Cairo has started 2026 in sensational form by winning the opening event of this year's Canarian junior surfing circuit, confirming his status as one of the region's top young competitors.

His success hasn't been limited to the Canary Islands. Earlier this year, Cairo travelled to Fistral Beach in Newquay, one of Britain's most iconic surfing locations, where he claimed the title of 2026 Under-16 Boys English National Champion.

His victory was built on dedication and determination. On the morning of the competition, Cairo was the very first surfer in the water, practising before registration had even opened. That commitment paid dividends as he confidently progressed through every heat before delivering a dominant performance in the final, staying constantly active in the lineup and making the most of every scoring opportunity to secure his first English national title.

The win has earned him selection as England's first-choice Under-16 representative for two of the biggest junior surfing competitions in the world.

In September, Cairo will travel more than 5,000 miles to El Salvador to compete at the ISA World Junior Surfing Championships, where the world's best young surfers will battle for international honours.

Just weeks later, he will represent England again at the European Junior Surfing Championships in Ireland.

Selection for either event is an achievement in itself, with each country choosing only three Under-16 boys and three Under-18 boys to represent their nation. Cairo secured the coveted first-choice position thanks to his English national title.

More than just a surfer

Surfing isn't the only area where Cairo has excelled.

Raised in front of the camera as well as in the ocean, he began modelling at just two years old, working with major European and international brands across lifestyle, fashion, sportswear, tourism, music and advertising campaigns.

Despite his busy competition schedule, education remains a priority. Cairo studies for his GCSEs through Kings Inter High, where he is also an official school ambassador. The flexible online learning programme allows him to combine his studies with intensive surf training and international travel while maintaining strong academic standards.

A passion for protecting the ocean

Away from competition, Cairo has another dream that reflects his lifelong connection with the sea.

He hopes to become a marine biologist, dedicating his career to studying and protecting whales and dolphins, with a particular fascination for orcas. It's a passion that has grown naturally from a childhood spent in the waters surrounding Tenerife and one that perfectly complements his life as a surfer.

As he prepares to compete against the world's elite junior surfers later this year, Cairo Garcia is proving that talent, hard work and determination can take young athletes from the beaches of Tenerife to the biggest stages in world surfing.
