Police have opened an investigation after the body of an unidentified person was discovered inside a coastal cave in Tenerife.
The National Police have confirmed that a body was found in a cave on the coast of Acorán, in the municipality of Santa Cruz, on Friday afternoon.
Officers located the body during a routine search, but the circumstances surrounding the death remain unclear.
Police said an autopsy will now be carried out to establish both the cause of death and the identity of the deceased.
The discovery was made on Friday (17th July), although the National Police only confirmed the incident publicly today, Sunday.
The investigation has been handed over to the National Police's Homicide Group, which will examine all possible circumstances surrounding the death. At this stage, officers have not released any further details, and there is no confirmation of whether any criminal activity is suspected.
More information is expected once the post-mortem examination has been completed and investigators are able to determine how the person died.
