Police link teen to two hotel room attacks on tourists in Fuerteventura
A teenage boy has been arrested in Fuerteventura for allegedly carrying out two violent assaults on female tourists staying in hotels in Costa Calma, both following the same pattern. The Guardia Civil detained the suspect on 18th July 2025 as part of “Operation Praktiker”, linking him to attacks that took place in December 2024 and June this year.
The most recent case occurred on 23rd June 2025, when a woman was assaulted inside her hotel room in the south of the island. She sustained serious injuries to her head, hands, and arms and was rushed to Fuerteventura General Hospital.
The incident caused significant alarm locally, amplified by messages the victim later posted on social media warning others about safety in the area.
An investigation began by reviewing CCTV footage from hotels and nearby businesses, interviewing staff, guests, and residents, and checking for similar past incidents. Detectives soon connected the June assault to another attack on 16th December 2024, which had taken place just a short distance away in Costa Calma.
In both cases, the attacker entered the victims’ rooms while they were inside and inflicted serious injuries. Security footage and witness statements led police to focus on a local teenager matching the suspect’s description. Surveillance operations gathered enough evidence to obtain authorisation to search his home.
During the raid, officers recovered clothing believed to have been worn during both assaults, along with other items potentially linked to the attacks. Mobile devices were also seized for forensic analysis to help fully clarify the events.
The suspect was taken into custody, and a judge has since ordered his detention at the Tabares Juvenile Centre, where he remains under court-imposed measures.
