Appeal to find missing Irish holidaymaker in Fuerteventura
An appeal has been shared to help find a holidaymaker who went missing during a solo trip to Fuerteventura. Gary Johnston, 52, flew from Dublin to the island on 1st October, planning to spend time walking and camping.
He was last heard from on 3rd October and was due to return home four days later, but did not board his flight. He is described as approximately 1.78 metres tall — around 5ft 10in — with a medium build, blue eyes and brown hair.
The National Police and Guardia Civil are reported to be involved in the search.
Gary had gone to Fuerteventura alone to go hiking and wild camping, so may have been wearing outdoor clothes and carrying a backpack, however, the information released so far does not identify the route he planned to follow or the location of his last confirmed sighting.
Although he had a return ticket to fly back to Dublin at the end of his holiday on 7th October, the Guardia Civil have confirmed that he did not board that flight.
Residents and visitors who may have seen him, spoken to him or have information about his movements are being asked to contact the Guardia Cicil on 062 or the National Police on 091, both have operators that speak English.
Anyone coming forward should provide the date, approximate time and location of any possible sighting.
