Jet2 adds Gatwick flights to Gran Canaria as TUI plans more seats for 2027

British holidaymakers will have more options for reaching Gran Canaria this winter, with Jet2 offering three flights a week from London Gatwick to the island.

The connection was highlighted by Gran Canaria’s tourism team during the World Travel Market in London, where officials also discussed plans with major airlines and tour operators.

TUI has forecast an 8% increase in seats to Gran Canaria for summer 2027. Its growth plans cover several European markets, including Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium.

Why the UK market matters most

The UK remains one of Gran Canaria’s most important sources of visitors, supporting hotels, restaurants, shops and other businesses in popular resorts such as Maspalomas, Playa del Inglés and Puerto Rico.

Between January and September this year, the island received 830,016 passengers from the UK, an increase of 5.54% compared with the same period in 2025.

Jet2 was the largest British operator on the island during that period, carrying nearly 320,000 passengers. Manchester was the leading UK departure airport, followed by Gatwick and Birmingham.

For British residents in Gran Canaria, direct connections are also important for visiting family and friends and travelling back to the UK.

A boost amid pressure on flights

The news comes as tourism officials monitor airline schedules and the effect of higher fuel and operating costs.

Despite the Jet2 and TUI announcements, the island’s current analysis shows approximately 613,000 scheduled flight seats for the winter period from November 2026 to April 2027, around 5% fewer than the previous winter. Airline schedules can change, so travellers should check availability and flight times directly before booking.
