Man attacked with machete outside his home in Corralejo

A 25-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly attacking another man with a machete at his home in Corralejo, leaving him with a seven-centimetre wound to his arm.

The Guardia Civil say the victim had already received medical treatment following an earlier assault at a shopping centre before returning home, where one of his alleged attackers was waiting with the weapon.

The suspect was arrested on 29th October on suspicion of causing serious injury. Details of the investigation were released today (Friday).

According to the police account, the victim reported that two people had initially assaulted him at a shopping centre in the resort in northern Fuerteventura.

He went to a health centre for treatment for minor injuries sustained during that incident, then returned to his property.

Police say one of the people involved in the first assault was waiting there and allegedly attacked him again, this time with a machete. The resulting wound to his arm required stitches.

Guardia Civil officers and the Local Police in La Oliva worked together to find the main suspect after receiving the victim’s complaint.

Investigators say the man tried to conceal himself on the rooftops of several homes while carrying the weapon allegedly used in the attack.

Officers found and arrested him within hours of the complaint being lodged.

During their inquiries, police also established that an outstanding court order required his arrest in connection with an earlier matter. No further details about that case were provided.

The suspect and the investigation file were subsequently handed over to the investigating court in Puerto del Rosario.
