Police investigating robberies at jewellery stores in two Gran Canaria shopping centres are examining whether a man arrested on Monday is connected to the raids.
The 20-year-old was detained by Local Police in Las Palmas over suspected vehicle thefts at dealerships in the Miller Bajo area. National Police are now investigating his possible involvement in the jewellery robberies.
One of the raids took place at Las Arenas shopping centre on Tuesday 13th October, while the other targeted a jewellers at El Mirador.
The arrest followed calls from business owners who reported a man behaving suspiciously around several premises in Miller Bajo.
The Local Police went to the area and located the suspect, who allegedly fled after noticing their presence.
An officer followed him to a building on Calle Farmacéutico Manuel Blanco, where he was subsequently arrested after additional officers arrived.
The development comes less than a week after the Las Arenas robbery, which Canarian Weekly previously reported.
The man’s arrest relates to the suspected vehicle thefts. His possible connection to the jewellery raids remains under investigation, and police have not confirmed that he took part in either robbery.
