A 75-year-old man was taken to hospital in a serious condition after beachgoers pulled him from the sea at Playa del Inglés this morning (Tuesday).
The emergency was reported just after 8:30am at the beach in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, southern Gran Canaria.
People in the area rescued the man before emergency medical crews arrived. The Canary Islands’ emergency coordination centre activated a medicalised ambulance and a basic life-support ambulance.
Paramedics assessed and treated him for serious near-drowning symptoms before transferring him to Hospital Universitario San Roque Maspalomas.
Officers from the Local Police and the National Police also attended and assisted with the emergency response.
The official statement does not disclose the man’s nationality, explain how he got into difficulty or provide a subsequent update on his condition.
