Shoppers were left stunned after a drunk British holidaymaker, clearly the worse for wear, decided to mount the life-sized model cow outside a popular Ale-Hop store in Playa Fañabé, Costa Adeje.

Witnesses say the man was accompanied by two friends when he approached the well-known cow that sits outside the shop on Calle París.

With the help of one of his companions, he climbed onto the plastic cow’s back, shouting “Yeehaw!” as if he were in a rodeo.

Store employees rushed over within seconds, not only to remove the man but also to stop what appeared to be an attempt to take the mascot away. In a bizarre scene, staff likened to “Don Quixote and Sancho Panza” intercepted the group as they tried to manoeuvre the cow down the street.

Although the staff from the shop briefly calmed the situation, the tourist made one last tug on the cow’s horns before finally giving up. Throughout the incident, he reportedly refused to get off, insisting on enjoying his “moment of glory” fuelled by the alcohol in his system, declaring himself a “real cowboy”.

In recent years, Tenerife has seen its fair share of alcohol-fuelled tourist incidents, from late-night brawls spilling onto the streets of Playa de las Américas to visitors leaping into hotel pools fully clothed.

In 2023, a group of holidaymakers were fined after climbing onto a parked police car for photos, while another incident saw a drunken stag party block traffic by staging an impromptu conga line through a busy roundabout in Costa Adeje.

Authorities say this behaviour not only disrupts businesses and inconveniences residents, but also damages the island’s reputation as a safe, family-friendly destination.
