The Canary Islands Directorate General for Emergencies has upgraded the status from pre-alert to alert for adverse coastal conditions along the northern and western shores of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
Meanwhile, the rest of the coastline on these islands, along with the northern shores of Tenerife and Gran Canaria, as well as the northern and western coasts of La Palma, El Hierro, and La Gomera, remain under pre-alert.
This decision was taken based on forecasts from the Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) and other available sources, in line with the Canary Islands’ Specific Emergency Plan for Meteorological Risks (PEFMA), established under Decree 18/2014 of 20th March.
Severe Coastal Conditions Expected
Today, Friday, the affected areas are expected to experience combined sea waves reaching or exceeding 5 to 6 metres along the northern and western coasts of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, with 3 to 4-metre waves expected in other coastal areas.
By tomorrow, Saturday, conditions will remain severe, with wave heights forecasted to reach 4 to 5 metres along the northern and western coasts of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, while other areas are expected to see waves between 3 and 4 metres.
Residents and visitors in these areas are advised to exercise caution and follow official safety recommendations as rough sea conditions persist.
