Elderly driver crashes into Lanzarote home after losing control
A car crashed into the wall of a house alongside the LZ-2 road towards Arrecife, between El Cable and Playa Honda, at midday on Wednesday. The driver was an elderly man who reportedly lost control of the vehicle, left the carriageway, and slammed into the property.
He sustained bruises but was not seriously injured. The house, however, suffered severe structural damage.
Fortunately, the occupants were in the swimming pool at the time of the collision and escaped unharmed. A tree in the garden also helped to soften the impact.
Firefighters attended the scene to clear debris and, if necessary, free the driver from the vehicle, though he was already receiving medical attention from emergency crews on arrival. The incident caused short but heavy traffic delays in the area.
Emergency teams also contained a petrol leak using foam and absorbent materials before disconnecting the car’s battery to eliminate further risks. The area was then cordoned off for safety.
