A Malta Air flight, operated by Ryanair, departing from Tenerife South for Manchester was forced to change its destination yesterday (Sunday), and land at an airport in Spain due to a medical emergency on board.
Air traffic controllers confirmed that flight FR1248 was diverted to Santiago de Compostela Airport in Galicia to provide urgent medical assistance to a passenger.
The crew requested an emergency landing to ensure that the affected passenger could receive immediate medical attention, and in response to the request, air traffic control facilitated a quick descent and cleared the flightpath for them to land at runway 17 at the Galician airport.
The emergency protocol was activated and medical teams were ready on the ground to board the plane as soon as it landed.
At present, no further details have been released about the condition of the passenger involved.
