There are now orange and yellow active weather warnings in the Canary Islands

AEMET has updated its weather warnings for the Canary Islands as the region continues to experience the effects of Storm Ivo, bringing strong winds and rough seas to the archipelago.

Currently, yellow warnings are in place for all of the islands, while Lanzarote has been issued with an orange warning. These alerts have now been extended until Saturday.

All active weather warnings by island:

TENERIFE:

Tenerife has two active yellow warnings:

  • Wind warning: Maximum gusts of up to 70 km/h from the northeast are expected, particularly affecting the island’s summits and southeastern and northwestern slopes. This warning remains in place until 11:59pm on Friday night.
  • Rough sea warning: Active until 11:59pm on Friday night, affecting the eastern, southern, and western coasts, with northeast winds of 50 to 61 km/h (Force 7) in the southeast.

GRAN CANARIA:

Two yellow warnings are active:

  • Wind warning: Maximum gusts of 70 km/h, affecting the eastern, southern, and western slopes, as well as the island’s highlands. This warning remains active until 9:00am on Saturday.
  • Rough sea warning: Active until 11:59pm on Friday night, affecting the eastern, southern, and western coasts, with northeast winds of 50 to 61 km/h (Force 7) in the southeast and west.

LA PALMA:

Two yellow warnings are in place:

  • Wind warning: Maximum gusts of 70 km/h, primarily impacting the island’s summits and its southeastern and northwestern slopes. This remains active until 11:59pm on Friday night.
  • Rough sea warning: Active until 11:59pm on Friday night, affecting the eastern, southern, and western coasts, with northeast winds of 50 to 61 km/h (Force 7) in the southeast.

EL HIERRO:

Two yellow warnings are in place:

  • Wind warning: Maximum gusts of 70 km/h affecting the entire island, especially the summits and southeastern and northwestern slopes. This remains active until 11:59pm on Friday night.
  • Rough sea warning: Active until 11:59pm on Friday night, affecting the western coast, with northeast winds of 50 to 61 km/h (Force 7) in the southeast.

LA GOMERA:

Two yellow warnings are active:

  • Wind warning: Maximum gusts of 70 km/h, affecting the entire island, particularly its summits and southeastern and northwestern slopes. This warning remains in place until 11:59pm on Friday night
  • Rough sea warning: Active until 9:00am on Saturday, affecting the western coast, with northeast winds of 50 to 61 km/h (Force 7) in the southeast.

FUERTEVENTURA:

One yellow warning is in effect:

  • Rough sea warning: Active until 11:59pm on Friday night, affecting the entire island, with northeast winds of 50 to 61 km/h (Force 7) in the southeast.

LANZAROTE:

Lanzarote is under a higher-level orange warning for rough seas:

  • The yellow warning is active until 6:00pm on Thursday when it will escalate to orange until 11:59pm. It will then revert to a yellow warning until 11:59pm on Friday night.
  • Winds from the northeast are expected to reach 50 to 61 km/h (Force 7) in the southeast.
