Sunday Weather: Haze clears leaving another warm winter day in the islands

The haze that has lingered over the Canary Islands in recent days is expected to dissipate by this evening, Sunday, according to forecasts from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).

However, a slight presence of dust may still be felt over the more mountainous islands.

The day will generally see light, variable winds, with a predominance of coastal breezes. Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura will experience mostly clear skies with occasional high cloud cover, while Tenerife and the western islands will see partly cloudy conditions with intervals of high cloudiness and some inland cloud development over the mountainous regions.

Sea Conditions

The sea will be calm to slightly choppy, though rougher waters are expected around the main islands of Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura. A northwesterly swell will bring waves of approximately one metre in height.

Weather Forecast for the Islands:

LANZAROTE:

Mostly clear skies, with some high clouds and low cloud cover in the morning along the eastern coast. Maximum temperatures will rise slightly and may be moderately higher in inland areas, while minimum temperatures will remain steady or drop slightly. Winds will be generally light, shifting from an easterly and southerly direction in the morning to a northerly flow in the afternoon.
Temperatures: Expected highs of 22°C and low of 14°C.

FUERTEVENTURA:

Predominantly clear skies, with some high clouds and occasional low clouds along the east coast in the early morning. Maximum temperatures will see a slight increase, potentially more pronounced in inland areas, while minimum temperatures will remain steady or drop slightly. Winds will be light, initially from the east before turning north in the afternoon.
Temperatures: Expected highs of 22°C and low of 16°C.

GRAN CANARIA:

Partly cloudy skies with high clouds and some cloudiness developing over the eastern coasts in the morning and northern regions in the afternoon. A light haze will persist throughout the day but will clear by the evening. Temperatures will remain stable, with light easterly winds and breezes along the coast.
Temperatures: Expected highs of 21°C and low of 17°C.

TENERIFE:

Partly cloudy skies with high clouds, along with early morning cloudiness on the eastern slopes and inland development in the afternoon. A light haze will gradually dissipate by the end of the day. Temperatures will show little change, with a possibility of light frost in the central peaks. Winds will be variable and light, with breezes on the south coast.
