The National Police have arrested a 28-year-old woman in Adeje in the south of Tenerife, for crimes of fraud and forgery of documents in real estate scams. She is accused of abusing her work as a real estate agent by offering various properties for sale and rental but didn’t complete the transactions.
Once the clients had agreed to the purchase or rental of a property by signing a contract and paying a deposit to the estate agent, she forged the signatures of the supposed owners or lessors and kept their deposits.
An investigation was opened after the police received several complaints about the same woman and the same modus operandi from people in the south of Tenerife.
Officers were able to identify and locate the woman in the municipality of Adeje, who was arrested for the reported scams, all of which have been brought to the attention of the competent Judicial Authority.
So far fourteen victims have been uncovered and the total value of the scam already exceeds 30,000 euros. The police are not ruling out the discovery of more victims as the investigation continues.
