A 35-year-old woman was airlifted in critical condition to the Insular University Hospital of Gran Canaria yesterday (Thursday), following a serious incident at the swimming pool of a hotel complex in the municipality of Pájara in Fuerteventura.
The emergency occurred at approximately 1:35pm in the pool area of an complex on Avenida de los Pueblos. The Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) received an urgent alert reporting that a woman had suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest.
According to reports, a doctor who happened to be at the hotel, alongside lifeguard staff, immediately began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) until SUC medical personnel arrived and took over, administering advanced resuscitation techniques. Their efforts successfully restored the woman's pulse.
Once stabilised, she was flown in a medicalised helicopter to Gran Canaria, where she was admitted to hospital in critical condition.
Local police officers and firefighters from Pájara assisted in coordinating the helicopter's landing and take-off procedures, ensuring the swift and safe evacuation of the patient.
Authorities have not released further details regarding the circumstances of the incident, but the swift coordination of emergency services was instrumental in saving the woman’s life.
