A 43-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after reportedly confessing to transporting the body of his partner in the boot of his car. The arrest took place on Friday along the AP-7 motorway in Tarragona.
According to sources close to the investigation, the incident took place at around 6:15p.m. on Friday, when a police patrol supporting a tow truck operation observed the man’s vehicle pull over. He then exited the car and voluntarily informed the officers of the body inside the boot.
Upon inspection, police confirmed the presence of a woman’s body in the boot and took the man into custody.
The Catalan police force are leading the investigation. The case remains under judicial secrecy as it is being handled by the Criminal Investigation Division in Tarragona.
The Ministry of Equality and Feminism of the Catalan Government has referred to the case as a suspected “femicide” in a statement shared via social media platform X. The identity of the victim has not yet been publicly released.
The case continues to be treated as a serious crime, and further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
