Six injured after vehicle overturns on dangerous dirt track in Esquinzo

Six people were injured on Wednesday afternoon when a car carrying seven young passengers overturned on a dirt track leading from Piedra Playa to Esquinzo, an area in the municipality of La Oliva.

The accident occurred at 6:31pm and prompted a rapid response from emergency services.

Among the injured, six people suffered multiple bruises and moderate abrasions, while a 19-year-old man also reported neck pain. All were taken to Fuerteventura General Hospital by ambulance for further evaluation and treatment.

La Oliva’s fire brigade secured the overturned vehicle, preventing any additional risks, while the Guardia Civil took charge of the official report and investigation. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of all emergency responders, those involved in the accident received timely care with no reported complications beyond the initial injuries.

The road where the accident occurred is a well-known risky area. The dirt track connecting Piedra Playa to Esquinzo has seen several incidents over recent years, many of them involving vehicles losing control due to loose gravel, uneven surfaces, and sharp turns. These hazards are especially dangerous for inexperienced drivers, contributing to a string of collisions and cars being rolled.

Despite local efforts to enhance safety through improved signage and public awareness campaigns, the stretch remains a hotspot for accidents. The latest incident has once again raised concerns among residents and local authorities about the urgent need for further measures to prevent future accidents on this treacherous route.
