A man has been arrested in the town of San Isidro, in the south of Tenerife, after drugs were found concealed around his genital area inside his trousers. The operation, carried out last Friday (11th April), was led by the Local Police’s Information and Response Group (G.I.R.) with support from the specialised Canine Unit.
Acting on intelligence suggesting the suspect was involved in small-scale drug trafficking, G.I.R. officers located him driving a vehicle and requested assistance from the Canine Unit to intercept and search him.
During the intervention, the sniffer dog indicated that there was something hidden around the man’s genital area, prompting a more thorough inspection.
Following this, he handed over a fabric pouch containing eight doses of a substance believed to be cocaine. In addition, officers seized €155 in cash, made up of various denominations, suspected to be proceeds from drug dealing.
Following the discovery, the man, identified by the initials J.V.M., was arrested on suspicion of an offence related to drug possession with intent to distribute.
The Local Councillor for Security, María Candelaria Rodríguez, praised the success of the operation and highlighted the dedication and professionalism of the Local Police.
“Operations like this demonstrate the high level of coordination, training, and commitment of our Local Police, especially specialised units such as the G.I.R. and Canine Unit, which are crucial in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking,” she said.
She also reaffirmed the council’s commitment to strengthening police resources and capabilities to ensure the continued safety of the local community.
