The King of Spain surprises diners by stopping at a restaurant in south Tenerife

The King of Spain, Felipe VI, surprised diners yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) when he stopped off at a well-known restaurant in the south of Tenerife for lunch.

The Bahía Los Abrigos restaurant shared a photo of the monarch who was happy to pose with the team of chefs and waiters from the restaurant after having fresh fish for lunch.

Although there were those who thought that was fake news, the truth is that the King is in the vicinity of the Canary Islands staying on a navy frigate, to oversee the exercises that the Spanish Navy are carrying out today and tomorrow to the southwest of El Hierro, as he is the leader of the military in Spain.

These manoeuvres are part of the "Sinkex 23" program, which includes the sinking of the retired ship Martín Posadillo using live ammunition, which has caused disruption amongst political and environmental groups.

Thirty-one social, union and political organizations have demanded that the Government Delegation in the Canary Islands, through a manifesto, prevent any type of military manoeuvre near the islands, claiming they are a threat to peace in the Archipelago.

However, the Ministry of Defence assured last Friday that the area chosen for the "Sinkex 23" manoeuvres is located in an area more than 100 miles from any sea or air routes, in addition to “being carried out safely under the best supervision."
