The Guardia Civil rescue two crew members of a capsized catamaran in Tenerife

Agents of the Maritime Department of the Guardia Civil rescued two crew members from a catamaran that capsized in the sea, near the coast by Barranco Hondo on the east coast of Tenerife this afternoon, as reported by the emergency services.

They were dispatched following an SOS call because the boat, a light sailing catamaran type, had overturned with the sail semi-submerged in the water.

The two crew members were also in the water trying to turn the boat back over, but couldn’t due to the large amount of water inside the sail which was weighing it down.

Given the state of the sea and the force of the wind, the agents threw them a rope to tie to it so that they could right the boat by pulling it with theirs after the two men were safely on the rescue boat.

After it was the right way up again they took the two men, and towed their catamaran, to Varadero Beach where they were met and treated by medical personnel.

One of the two men, the least experienced sailor, was taken to hospital for further treatment of mild hypothermia after being in the sea for a long period.
