Tenerife Motor Circuit: Let the work begin!

Tenerife Motor Circuit: Let the work begin!

The Governing Council of the Tenerife Cabildo approved the tender for the construction of the Tenerife Motor Circuit yesterday (Tuesday), with a bidding budget of 56 million euros and a time scale of 40 months for completion.

The tender includes the execution of three projects:
- the channelling of the three ravines to ensure against flooding.
- the levelling and installations for removable stands.
- and, finally, the construction of the track itself.

The circuit, located in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona in the south of Tenerife, will cover a total area of nearly 650,000 square metres that will allow all kinds of competitions to be held with quality and, above all, safety.

Once the works are finished, the track will be 4,050 metres long with a main straight of almost 800 metres. It will also be characterized by being one of the few circuits in the world to circulate in an anti-clockwise direction.

The paddock will have a total area of 72,000 square metres to accommodate any requirements by national or international competitions.

The infrastructure will have a main grandstand with a capacity for more than 5,000 people, a restaurant and a shopping area, as well as 15 pit boxes for cars and 45 for motorcycles.

In addition, it has the approvals of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) and the International Motorcycle Federation (FIM) to host top-level races and testing.

The president of the Tenerife Cabildo, Pedro Martín, highlighted the importance of the tender for the construction of the Circuit, saying that it is a big step forward for the project.

“Steps must be taken in this long process, and with many administrative procedures to comply with, all the regulations are met, but this will allow companies to present proposals to carry out these works so that later this year we will be able to see the machinery working on site.”

The Tenerife Motor Circuit will not be exclusive to large events, as one of the objectives is for motorsport to grow on the island. For this reason, there will be facilities dedicated to training for the automotive industry and locals available for companies related to this sector.
