The TF-1 motorway in Tenerife came to a standstill yesterday due a car being on fire on the hard shoulder on the northbound carriageway by the junction for Poris de Abona.
Thick black smoke greeted drivers as they approached the area, and several stopped on the highway and got out of their vehicles to see if there was anyone in the car or if there was anything they could do to help.
The Emergency Services arrived at the scene just after 2pm and confirmed that the car was empty and that no one was injured in the incident, whilst the Guardia Civil coordinated the traffic and the fire brigade tackled the blaze and extinguished the fire.
After clearing the vehicle the traffic returned to normal and police are now investigating the cause of the fire.
