Maritime Rescue are coordinating the search for a man who is still missing after being washed out to sea by the strong currents from a natural pool on the Los Gigantes coast in Tenerife yesterday afternoon (Monday), after failing to locate him.
The search was activated after the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) received a call alerting that two people were in trouble at sea in the Puerto Santiago natural pools.
One of them, a 23-year-old woman, was rescued by lifeguards from the municipal beach rescue service, and once on land, she was treated by medical personnel for anxiety and was taken to Hospiten Sur in Las Americas for routine observation.
Two helicopters and a Maritime Rescue boat continued the search for the missing man at sea but were unable to locate him by the time they had to stop due to bad light last night. The search will continue this morning.
The emergency services continue to warn people that a red flag means a red flag, whether on a beach or at a natural pool. In this situation of adverse sea conditions, the natural pools can be more dangerous than the beaches.
