The Guardia Civil have arrested a 29-year-old man in Playa de Las Américas in the south of Tenerife after he ran someone over on purpose with his car following a ‘heated’ argument, from which the victim suffered serious injuries and had to be admitted to hospital.
The incident occurred after the two men had a dispute (for unknown reasons) which, according to eyewitnesses, led to one of them getting into his car and driving into and knocking over the other one on purpose, and then leaving him lying on the floor and driving off.
An investigation was opened to clarify what had happened and to locate the man responsible for of the hit-and-run, for which they had the make and model of the car, but only part of the registration number.
However, after several searches of the area and putting the details of the car in the database with various registration combinations, they were able to get the information they needed and found the car hidden in a secluded place by its owner.
They were then able to track down where he lived and locate him before officially identifying him as their suspect and arresting him.
The detainee and the detailed police report have been handed over to the Investigating Court of Arona, where he has been charged with a crime of causing serious injuries and is awaiting trial, while the victim is still recovering in hospital.
