The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, has asked people "not to go up to take photos" of the areas close to the fire in Tenerife, appealing for "common sense" to prevail in such a delicate situation for the Island.
Yesterday, onlookers were detected who, with cameras or phones in hand, used access roads near areas of the fire, hindering the work of firefighters and the emergency services.
The Tenerife Cabildo added that “routes need to be freed up so firefighters can access areas as quickly and as easily as possible because time is critical.”
The confinements and road closures ordered so far have been for people’s safety and so that the emergency services can act more quickly and efficiently.
Clavijo also said that last night the fire had “behaved normally”, compared to previous nights, when there was "quite unusual" behaviour due to the wind and weather conditions. This relative improvement in conditions has meant that the resources have been able to work more intensively and their efforts are starting to have an effect.
Latest estimates are that the fire now has a perimeter of 42 kilometres covering 3,800 hectares (9,400 acres).
