The National Police have arrested a 51-year-old British man after he called the emergency Services saying he knew of several bomb attacks taking place in Tenerife, causing a full-scale operation and deployment of emergency resources and then it turned out to be a hoax.
The man triggered a National Police investigation after phoning the 112 call centre warning about the placement of explosive devices by third parties, stating that he had heard two people with a foreign accent talking about the placement of backpacks with bombs inside them in a public place.
Given the circumstances, the National Police activated the corresponding protocol, mobilizing different police departments based on the information he had given until it was determined that the threat was not real.
Because of this, the investigators refocused their efforts on identifying the person who had made the call, and who was responsible for wasting police time and resources.
It wasn’t long before they were able to locate him and arrested him taking him into custody before passing him to the judicial authorities for sentencing.
