This morning, Friday, the Local and National Police started the collection of excursion desks and kiosks operating in ‘illegal’ locations of Las Americas, following several months of accusations by those who operate with the correct licences and on licenced premises.
They collected the equipment and marketing materials of five of these kiosks this morning, as seen in the images captured by Diario de Avisos who broke this story in May.
Both the mayoress of Arona, Fátima Lemes, and the Councillor for Security, Alexis Gómez, were present during the operation in which tensions ran high in some areas as trucks collected desk and A-boards under the guidance of the police.
An association of more than twenty legal excursion outlets have joined forces to denounce these kiosks, claiming unfair competition as they don't have the correct operating licences, the same costs as they’re not paying rent, or the same tax and social security bills, even though they are supposedly taking up to 3,000 euros a day.
Some were removed in May, just before the local elections, but they have since reappeared in the same locations on walkways and promenades in Arona and Adeje.
