Nestled on a ledge overlooking the sea between Ávalo Beach and Roque Bermejo Beach in La Gomera, is the brand new 4-star complex called the BANCAL Hotel & Spa which is in the final stages of construction and due to open to guests in November.
Situated just 5km and 5 minutes from San Sebastian, it has been built using the foundations of an old unfinished building by Grupo Arca, the company that owns the land and is in charge of the architectural development behind the hotel.
The project was born with the firm aim of respecting the natural environment where it is located, the island that hosts it, as well as the local culture and society, through an immersive experience in nature, gastronomy, and the traditions of the island.
The BANCAL Hotel & Spa is Arca’s first tourist project using 100% Canarian capital. The site was originally a hotel project that began construction more than two decades ago on the eastern coast of La Gomera.
Its design is based on an imposing presence adapted to the particular orography of the natural area that it is located in, as well as making use of materials that allow the complex to blend in with the surrounding landscape.
The result is an architectural sculpture, on top of a cliff, sheltering the visitors and guests from the wind, and in which fragmented geometries, open spaces, cement, red stone, and La Gomera basalt reign, carved by hand by master stonemasons who have came from different areas of the province during its construction.
When finished, the complex will have 276 rooms that will not be more than three floors high, respecting the landscape and making the architecture of the complex flow through the characteristic terraces of the island.
BANCAL Hotel & Spa will also have one of the largest solar farms housed in a hotel in Europe. A photovoltaic installation that has also been conceived as one more element, technological in this case, of the hotel's own design. It will also have a state-of-the-art treatment plant that will allow a double use of all the water consumed, using approximately half of the recovered water to feed the plants in and around the hotel.
During construction, the project has generated more than two hundred direct jobs, only hiring local and Tenerife-based companies, as well as artisans from the sector for these tasks. When it opens, the hotel will start with a workforce of more than a hundred staff, a figure that will increase as the resort welcomes the fullness of its services and guests.
