7,600 people have been evacuated or confined by the fire in Tenerife

According to the President of the Canary Islands Government, Fernando Clavijo, in a press conference this morning, the forest fire in Tenerife has now consumed more than 2,600 hectares with a perimeter that has increased to 31 kilometres, with a potential that has not been seen in the archipelago for many years.

After the fire monitoring coordination plan meeting, they estimate that some 7,600 people have been evacuated or confined by the fire, including the latest one in La Esperanza and El Rosario.

They are also concerned that weather conditions are still not favourable and that embers from the fire are being carried by the wind and are starting other fires in different areas which is making it spread even quicker than before. Clavijo stated that this fire has the potential to be one of the worst in the last 40 years in the archipelago.

FAMOUS VIEWING POINT DESTROYED:
As the fire continues to advance it is destroying everything in its path, including one of the best viewpoints in Tenerife and one of the world's favourite spots for immortalizing sunsets due to the beautiful view it offers of Teide.

Carlos Brusini, a graduate specialist in Security and Risk Control, shared a video in which the Chipeque viewpoint in Santa Úrsula, could be seen enveloped by a ball of fire that left an image as sad as it was impressive.

Chipeque is one of the favourite places for the people of Tenerife and thousands of tourists and visitors at any time of the year. From here, you can see a good part of the island from Punta del Hidalgo to Buenavista del Norte, with incomparable views of the La Orotava Valley, and the imposing presence of Teide. The sun descending towards the sea, often ‘swallowed’ by the sea of clouds, is a unique image.
