Weather alerts for high temperatures are now extended to all of the Canary Islands

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has now extended the alerts for high temperatures to the whole of the Canary Islands, with Fuerteventura and practically all of Gran Canaria in a red warning.

La Palma and El Hierro, which during the day today (Tuesday) had avoided temperatures as high as the neighbouring islands, will have a yellow warning from tomorrow (Wednesday) until at least Thursday and possibly beyond.

AEMET have reported that the western province of Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro, will register lower maximum temperatures than those of the eastern province, with highs of around 34 degrees, compared to the 37 that Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, and Lanzarote will experience.

They are predicting that the high temperatures will begin to decline on Friday, and will do so first in the eastern province, maintaining yellow warnings both in the south of Gran Canaria and Tenerife as well as La Gomera, El Hierro and the western half of La Palma, with highs between 28 and 31 degrees.

By then, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote will once again have more moderate temperatures, at around 27 degrees for the two easternmost islands.
