A man is in critical condition after a near-drowning incident early this morning (Wednesday) at the Club La Santa complex in Tinajo, Lanzarote. Emergency services were alerted that a man had been rescued from the resorts pool in cardiac arrest at around 7.30 am.

Lifeguards at the sports resort immediately began resuscitation before paramedics arrived. The medical team continued advanced resuscitation techniques and succeeded in restoring vital signs.

The man had severe symptoms of drowning, but was stabilised by paramedics before being transferred in critical condition to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife.

This latest case comes amid a worrying rise in near-drownings and water-related emergencies across the Canary Islands in the last few weeks.

On 14th August, a man was rescued from the sea between Playa Fañabé and Playa del Duque in Tenerife and taken to hospital in critical condition after suffering cardiac arrest. Just days earlier, a 44-year-old woman was airlifted by helicopter from a natural sea pool in Los Gigantes, and in Lanzarote, a 20-year-old French woman was pulled from the water at Puerto del Carmen and remains in serious condition.
