The National Police have arrested a 40-year-old man in Tenerife on suspicion of stealing luxury clothing worth more than €7,000 from a designer shop.

The investigation began after the owner of the boutique in Santa Cruz filed a complaint with the police on 31st July, reporting that a man had entered the shop the previous morning carrying a large suitcase and behaving suspiciously.

Staff noticed that as he left the store, the security alarm gates were triggered. The man immediately fled the scene with the suitcase, which was later found to contain the stolen clothing.

Following a full inventory, employees discovered that six items had been taken, including two jackets priced at €1,800 and €980 respectively.

Police officers launched an investigation and were able to identify the suspect from CCTV footage, who was already known to them as he had numerous convictions for similar offences.

A week later, after discreet surveillance, officers located him at a relative’s home. He was intercepted as he left the property, formally identified, arrested, and taken into custody before being placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities for sentencing.
