The Local Police were forced to subdue a man with a taser last weekend in the popular nightlife area of Veronicas, in Playa de las Américas in the south of Tenerife, after he became violently aggressive, smashed a bottle, and began self-harming himself.

According to witnesses, the man, believed to be a holidaymaker, was behaving in an “extremely aggressive” manner inside a venue before he went outside, smashed a glass bottle, and used it to cause injuries to his own neck. Officers intervened quickly and deployed a taser to safely restrain him, preventing further harm to himself and others.

The incident was confirmed by officers through the official Instagram account of Asipal Arona, the local police union.

In their statement, police also issued an apology to residents and visitors, acknowledging the ongoing strain on resources during the busy summer period:

“We apologise to the residents of the municipality and to visitors during these summer dates if, on occasions, we cannot meet all demands due to the shortage of staff, which in many cases leaves our colleagues overwhelmed.”

Veronicas, known for its nightlife and concentration of bars and clubs, has been the scene of several high-profile incidents in recent months, raising concerns about safety in the area.
