The natural swimming pools of El Caletón in Garachico (north Tenerife) have reopened to the public after being closed following the detection of high levels of the E. Coli bacteria.
The closure was ordered by the local council as a precaution after routine water quality tests showed faecal contamination that made bathing unsafe.
However, follow-up analyses carried out yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, confirmed that water quality had returned to safe levels for swimming, allowing the pools to reopen.
El Caletón is one of Tenerife’s most popular natural attractions, drawing both locals and visitors to its volcanic rock formations and sheltered pools. The temporary closure was part of strict safety protocols designed to protect public health.
Authorities remind swimmers to always respect bathing restrictions and signage, which are in place to prevent health risks during occasional episodes of poor water quality.
