New Lidl supermarket set to open in Costa Teguise
The German supermarket chain Lidl will officially open its new store in Costa Teguise this Friday, 22nd August. The branch has had an investment of more than €8.8 million and is on Calle Las Piteras. This is the company’s sixth store on the island of Lanzarote.
Covering more than 1,700 square metres of sales space, the supermarket promises a modern and convenient shopping experience, offering a wide selection of fresh, packaged, and own-brand products.
The new store will employ 29 people, bringing Lidl’s workforce on the island to 200. In the past year alone, the company has doubled its presence in Lanzarote, with other branches already operating in Arrecife, San Bartolomé, Yaiza, Puerto del Carmen, and Teguise.
Carlos Martínez, Lidl’s regional director for the Canary Islands, said: “We are very pleased to be opening our sixth store in Lanzarote, doubling our presence on the island in just one year. This new opening reflects our strong commitment to the Canary Islands and to being ever closer to our customers.”
The store will open daily from 8:30 am until 10:00 pm and has a large car park with around 150 spaces, four of which are fitted with electric vehicle charging points. Built to Lidl’s sustainability standards, the site includes energy-efficient features such as LED lighting and solar panels capable of generating up to 25% of the store’s energy use.
Support for local producers
Lidl also continues to strengthen ties with local suppliers, working with nearly 100 Canarian producers. Last year, the company purchased around €100 million worth of goods from the islands, including tomatoes, bananas, potatoes, papaya, sweet potatoes from Lanzarote, as well as meat, fish, dairy, wines, snacks, and plants. These products are available year-round across its 39 stores in the Canary Islands, giving local farmers and producers a valuable platform to reach both residents and visitors.
