A man and a woman have been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a road accident in the municipality of Tinajo in Lanzarote on Wednesday afternoon. The accident happened on Calle Montaña Tenesar when the vehicle they were travelling in left the road.

The Canary Islands Emergency Coordination Centre (CECOES 112) received the alert at 3:29pm on Wednesday, prompting the immediate mobilisation of emergency resources to the scene. Both occupants were found to have suffered serious multiple injuries.

The man was assessed by medical personnel as suffering from serious multiple trauma and was transferred to Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in a medicalised ambulance.

The woman also suffered serious multiple trauma and was taken to the same hospital in a basic life-support ambulance.

Firefighters help free occupant

Firefighters from the Lanzarote Emergency Consortium attended alongside personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) and Local Police.

One of the occupants required assistance to be removed from the vehicle.

According to details released following the accident, the vehicle had come to rest off the road but remained upright.

One of those injured was in the rear right-hand seat and firefighters worked with medical personnel to carry out a rapid extraction.

The operation involved the use of specialist equipment to safely remove the casualty before they could be transferred to the waiting ambulance.

Emergency personnel secured the area while the two injured occupants were treated and prepared for transfer to hospital.

Local Police officers also attended, regulating traffic around the accident scene and preparing the corresponding accident report.

No information has currently been released regarding what caused the vehicle to leave the road. The nationalities of the man and woman have also not been confirmed.
