Airlines have scheduled almost 34,000 fewer seats on flights from the UK to Lanzarote this winter than during the previous winter season, according to the latest tourism figures.
The reduction of 33,928 seats represents a fall of 3.8% for the 2026–27 winter season. Overall scheduled flight capacity to Lanzarote from all markets is also down, by 5.2%.
The UK remains Lanzarote’s largest source of tourists, making the figures significant for hotels, restaurants, bars and other businesses that depend on British visitors, particularly in resorts such as Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise.
What does it mean for holidaymakers?
The figures refer to the number of seats airlines have scheduled, rather than the number of passengers who will travel. Fewer scheduled seats does not necessarily mean fewer visitors, as that will also depend on how full flights are and whether airlines change their programmes.
The figures do not identify specific routes that have been cancelled or mean that existing bookings have been affected. Travellers should check directly with their airline or tour operator for information about their own flights.
Lanzarote’s tourism chief, Héctor Fernández, has described the expected reduction in air connectivity as relatively small in the context of the island’s overall flight programme.
UK seats down across the islands
Lanzarote is not alone in seeing a reduction. Across the Canary Islands, airlines have scheduled approximately 104,000 fewer seats from the UK this winter, a fall of 3.2% compared with the previous season.
That comes despite an increase in the total number of seats scheduled to the archipelago from all markets, including mainland Spain and several northern European countries.
For Lanzarote, the British market remains central to the island’s visitor economy. Tourism officials are due to meet UK travel operators at the World Travel Market in London as they look ahead to future seasons.
