The Canary Islands are set for a brighter day today, Thursday 5th November, after several days of unsettled weather brought heavy rain and thunderstorms to parts of the archipelago.
There will still be cloud around, and some inland areas could see scattered showers this afternoon, particularly in the north and east of Tenerife and Gran Canaria. However, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura can expect sunny spells to develop as the day goes on.
The Canary Islands Government ended its rain and thunderstorm pre-alerts across all islands at 8.00pm yesterday, Wednesday, after the conditions that prompted them came to an end.
Island-by-island forecast for Thursday 5th November:
TENERIFE
Tenerife will see a mixture of cloud and brighter spells this morning, with more cloud expected to develop from midday, particularly over the north and east of the island.
Scattered showers are possible in these areas during the afternoon. They are expected to be light to moderate, rather than the widespread heavy rain seen during the recent stormy spell.
In the south, Los Cristianos, Playa de Las Américas and Costa Adeje can look forward to brighter periods, especially during the afternoon. Puerto de la Cruz may also see some sunshine, although conditions can vary between the coast and the hills behind the town.
Temperatures in coastal areas are expected to range from around 19°C in the morning to 24–25°C during the afternoon. Winds will generally be light near the coast, but stronger southwesterly gusts are possible around the central summits.
GRAN CANARIA
Gran Canaria will start the day with a mixture of high cloud and brighter skies. From midday, cloud is likely to build over northern and eastern areas, where a few scattered showers cannot be ruled out.
The southern resorts, including Maspalomas, Playa del Inglés and Puerto Rico, should see sunny spells develop through the day. It will feel pleasant in sheltered areas, although there may still be cloud at times.
Temperatures around the coast are expected to range from approximately 18°C to 26°C, with Maspalomas reaching its warmest point during the afternoon. Light breezes are expected near the coast, with a moderate southwesterly wind in higher areas.
LANZAROTE
Lanzarote will have a cloudier start, with a mixture of low and high cloud across the island. The forecast suggests that the cloud will gradually break during the afternoon, allowing for some welcome sunny spells.
Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca should all see improving conditions as the day goes on. Winds are expected to remain light, making it a more settled day for exploring the island or spending time outdoors.
Temperatures in coastal areas are expected to be around 20°C to 26°C, with Puerto del Carmen forecast to be warmest during the early afternoon.
FUERTEVENTURA
Fuerteventura can also expect a mixture of cloud and sunshine. The morning may begin rather cloudy, particularly in the north, before brighter spells develop during the afternoon.
Corralejo and Caleta de Fuste should see the cloud gradually break, while Costa Calma and Morro Jable can also look forward to some sunshine later in the day. Winds will generally be light, with coastal breezes.
Temperatures are expected to range from around 19°C to 25°C in coastal areas. Corralejo is forecast to reach approximately 24°C, while Morro Jable could reach around 25°C.
Anyone heading into the mountains or planning a walk inland should still check local conditions before setting off, as some areas may remain wet after the recent rain.
