The temperatures drop and light rains return to the Canary Islands

The Canary Islands are forecast to have cloudy skies in the north of the islands today (Sunday), with light and occasional showers. In the rest of the areas there will be cloudy intervals and a drop in temperatures as the heatwave eases and weather warnings start to be lifted.

According to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), there will only be a slight drop in maximum temperatures in the easternmost of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, but a bigger decrease in the rest, especially at summits.

There will also be a moderate northeast wind, with some active warnings for strong gusts on the southeast and northwest slopes of the more mountainous islands, which continue to hinder fire crews in La Palma.

Sea conditions continue to be dangerous with large waves, strong currents, and deep swells, particularly on the west coast of the islands. These are not so prominent on the south coasts but the public are still advised to observe the colour of flags on beaches and in bathing areas.
