A taxi sign in the Canary Islands has gone viral on Twitter due to its unusual installation at the main taxi rank in the town of Playa San Juan in Guia de Isora in the south of Tenerife.
It’s the sort of thing you get on a meme being passed around on WhatsApp or Facebook but on this occasion it's genuine and on one of our islands.
Apparently, when the council installed the sign, it was too big for the canopy roof of the taxi rank, so the installers came up with a ‘genius’ solution. Instead of lengthening or shortening the pole, or putting it lower down, they decided to cut part of the roof so that the sign would fit as apparently there is a minimum height they have to be.
The image is doing the rounds on social media with many people believing it is fake, but unfortunately it is real! Many users have shown their disbelief and have described the scene as "surreal" and others have questioned the lack of judgment and common sense when making installing: "My god, what a botch", one said.
The image has been shared hundreds of times and has become one of the most commented on images on Twitter in the Canary Islands.
Undoubtedly, this situation highlights the importance of planning and logic when making decisions on infrastructure and installing road signs.
