Tenerife increases its connectivity to Miami with daily flights via Madrid

The Tenerife tourist board has set its sights on the Miami market, reinforcing its air connectivity with the city through Air Europa, the primary airline linking the two destinations. Miami is the second busiest airport in the United States for passengers travelling to Tenerife, with most connections routed via Madrid.

In pursuit of this strategy, Turismo de Tenerife and Air Europa have organised a series of promotional activities in Florida to showcase the island’s offerings to local media.

The campaign highlights Tenerife’s diverse range of leisure activities, natural attractions, and gastronomy, aiming to generate greater interest among American travellers.

Lope Afonso, Minister of Tourism for the Tenerife Cabildo, emphasised the significance of the North American market in the island’s connectivity strategy. He explained that the goal is to strengthen both direct and indirect links with the United States, which represents an attractive market with high-value visitors.

The initiative is part of a broader plan to reposition Tenerife as an experiential destination, shifting away from traditional mass tourism towards a higher-quality visitor profile.

Dimple Melwani, CEO of Turismo de Tenerife, also highlighted the importance of the Miami connection, describing it as a key element in the island’s international expansion strategy.

She pointed out that Tenerife benefits from long-haul connections via major global hubs such as Air Europa’s base in Madrid. With daily flights, seven days a week, and a layover time of no more than three hours, the Miami-Tenerife route is expected to play a crucial role in assessing the future potential of further connectivity with Florida.

Air Europa’s Commercial Director, Imanol Pérez, expressed satisfaction in contributing to Tenerife’s global connectivity. He stressed that the airline’s extensive international network, facilitated through Madrid-Barajas, helps integrate Tenerife with major global destinations.

He also noted that Miami is a key market in the Americas and that strengthening this link will boost Tenerife’s economic growth and visibility in the US. The airline will operate the route using its Dreamliner fleet, which is designed to provide a more comfortable travel experience with reduced jet lag.

As part of its promotional efforts in Miami, Tenerife organised a two-day event at the Brickell City Centre, giving visitors and residents an opportunity to learn more about the island’s unique experiences and attractions. The event featured audiovisual displays and a prize draw for two Air Europa flight tickets, allowing the winners to discover Tenerife firsthand.
