Several roads in Gran Canaria are closed after heavy weather caused rockfalls, the island authorities have confirmed. Three routes are completely shut, mainly in the highlands and northwest of the island.
The following roads are currently not accessible:
- GC-607, the road to El Chorrillo in the municipality of Tejeda.
- GC-200, including access to Tirma, the scenic Mirador del Balcón, and the link towards Andén Verde.
- GC-70, between kilometre 1 and 5 near Albercón de la Virgen and Los Pinos de Gáldar.
All closures are due to fallen rocks and unstable ground after the storm.
Caution on the GC-15
The GC-15 between La Lechuza and Las Lagunetas is open, but drivers are warned to take care as small stones and more rockfalls are still possible as unsettled weather persists.
Advice for drivers
Officials recommend:
- Avoid travelling in mountain areas unless necessary.
- Check updated road information before setting off.
- Drive slowly and carefully on steep or winding roads.
Road crews are working to clear debris, but there is no set time for when the closed roads will reopen.
