Snow and rain are forecast throughout the Canary Islands later this week

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has announced that we can expect rain and snow in the Canary Islands later on this week. Rain is forecast across the Archipelago but will be in the form of snow in the mountainous islands above 2,000 metres, particularly in Tenerife and La Palma.

Specifically heavy rain is forecast from Wednesday afternoon (18th January), although they are predicting that it will start to get cloudier and overcast tomorrow (Tuesday), with light to moderate rains in the north of the Islands. In other areas, cloudy intervals are forecast with some local isolated showers.

The AEMET forecast also includes a drop in temperatures, which could be more significant in inland areas, where they will range from lows of 16 degrees at night and highs of 21 degrees during the day.

Weather maps are showing winds from the northeast with strong gusts in the extreme southeast and northwest of the islands and at summits, but only breezes on the sheltered southwest coasts of the mountainous islands.
