No one likes cockroaches in their home or apartment, whether living in the Canary Islands or on holiday, but stopping them can be a huge task. Cockroaches love humidity and usually appear more at night, scaring the life out of you if they run across the floor or scuttle away when you get up during the night.
However, this problem can have a simple and effective solution to stop them, at least, entering through the sinks and drains of our home by using a balloon.
The trick is becoming popular as thousands of people affirm that it works, and it has been shared in a video on Tik Tok by Hogaresfrescos (Fresh Homes), which always gives good advice on matters related to managing a home.
Here’s how to do it:
- Cut the balloon at both ends, in such a way that it is open on both sides of it.
- Unscrew the drain grate or trap where you think cockroaches are sneaking in, and that you want to keep sealed so they don't get through.
- Stretch the open end of the "head" of the balloon around the perimeter of the drain gate or trap.
- Put it back in place with the balloon underneath acting as a one-way funnel.
This unique trick will allow the water to continue flowing into the drain as normal, however, once the water passes through, the plastic walls of the balloon will stick together which will prevent cockroaches, and the bad smell that sometimes emanates from the drain, from entering your home.
