We were all in for a huge surprise last night when the rebooted version of Big Brother launched on ITV, after being off our screens for more than 5 years, because a very well-known face, and leg, from the entertainment scene in Tenerife, was announced as entering the house and was looking back at us from our TV’s!
Dylan Tennant is a legend on the Tenerife circuit as a singer, MC, DJ, radio presenter, and all-round inspirational character, he came to the island in his late teens following his brother Corey, who is also a successful singer on the circuit.
After several years of performing on the circuit and at massive music festivals, one fateful night in 2014 changed his life forever. As Dylan explained on the launch show, he was hit by a taxi which completely destroyed his foot splitting it in two and leaving it hanging off. To everyone’s surprise, especially his, doctors didn’t amputate it but carried out extensive groundbreaking surgery to save it.
After enduring months of operation, rehabilitation, and struggle, he was able to walk again but felt something was not right as he was in constant pain, and in his words “not right”.
In 2017, after putting up with it for 3 years, Dylan made the decision to have his foot amputated as he could no longer bear the pain, and after several consultations and assessments, doctors finally agreed, and Dylan 2.0 was born with a new lease of life.
Always having a positive outlook, Dylan turned the amputation from what most would see as a negative, into a positive, with his LED light-changing prosthetic leg as his new motivation to achieve more for himself, and to motivate others in the same situation
He went back to performing on big and small stages, started presenting a show on local radio station Oasis Fm (part of the same group as Canarian Weekly), and won the Entertainers Entertainer Award at the 2017 Tenerife Entertainment Awards highlighting his popularity as this was voted for by his peers.
Dylan's journey from hospital to motivational amputee went viral, and he continues to help people and give advice and support to those going through the same as he did, as many can end up in a very dark place without someone like Dylan to guide them.
Tenerife’s loss was the UK’s gain when Dylan left the island to continue his journey back home in Coventry, and now the UK will get to see why. Even if you’ve never watched Big Brother before, tune in and support Dylan because if you’ve been to Tenerife on holiday, you will recognise him.
As for the residents of Tenerife, we already know what Dylan is like, and will be watching ITV2 at 9pm every night! Go Dylan… Boom!
