A 46-year-old woman died following a severe car accident in Lanzarote yesterday, Friday, according to reports from the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES). The tragic incident occurred on the LZ-702 road between Playa Blanca and Femés in the municipality of Yaiza, in the south of the island.
Emergency services were dispatched after a call reported that a vehicle had rolled several times. Firefighters quickly arrived at the scene to secure the car and rescue the two occupants, a man and a woman, who were trapped inside.
Despite the swift response, the woman succumbed to the critical injuries sustained in the crash, and her death was confirmed by personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC).
The driver, a man, was seriously injured and transported to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital, where he is being treated for a severe head injury.
The Guardia Civil and Local Police were present to manage traffic and have opened an investigation into the accident to determine what happened.
